Alan Webber is Research Director for IDC Government Insights. In this role, Alan leads IDC’s National Security and Intelligence research program as well as IDC’s government cybersecurity and cybercrime research efforts. Specific areas of research interest for Alan are the national security and cybersecurity aspects of technology policy, cybercrime, big data and analytics, internet of things, 3D printing, automation, cognitive computing, encryption, digital risk and security, and privacy.
Alan has more than 25 years of analyst, management, and technology experience working in the public sector. Alan is able to provide strategic advice and market intelligence on emerging and existing technologies, business practices, and market trends in the national security space. He also tracks the evolution and impact of legislative and policy efforts in the areas of cybersecurity, cybercrime, encryption, and privacy.
Alan’s primary research interests are to assist clients in understanding the intersection of society/culture, technology, and government. His research covers market forces and transformation technologies critical to the evolution and success of national government agencies and programs, enabling political leaders, line of business executives, and IT executives to be informed on today’s technology challenges in preparation for tomorrow.
